1/2 Marathon Virgin NO MORE!!
I have NEVER been an athletic type person. I like to chill out on the sofa and watch tv and snack...A LOT!! Last year for Valentines Day (Feb '12) I got engaged. We decided on a beach setting wedding in Mexico and that was all I needed. I was on a mission. First I joined Curves and started working out and eating healthier but I wasn't seeing the results I wanted. Then about a year ago I joined a boot camp workout class at the local rec center and they do quite a bit of running. I was very intimidated (I couldn't even do the timed mile w/o walking), I thought there's NO WAY I'll be able to do this. The class instructor and regular members are very supportive and encouraging (no one ever gets left behind). I'm always the slowest and the last to finish in our group but they never make me feel inadequate. Someone always comes back for me LOL This past year I was sort of "talked into" signing up for the Go! St. Louis 1/2 marathon (April '12), I was terrified. But I found that if I showed up when and where I was supposed to and ran (no matter how slowly) the distance I was supposed to I would be able to finish. The day finally came and I was sooo nervous, but I DID IT!! Not only that, I did it in the time I allowed myself. I made it across the finish line of my first ever 1/2 marathon in exactly 3 hours. I am now beginning training for my 2nd 1/2 marathon in Oct '12. When I started this journey I was 202 lbs, size 16 pushing into size 18 and couldn't run a mile without walking. Now, 1 year later I am 160 lbs a healthy size 10 (soon to be size 8) and running 13.1 miles non stop. I am super proud of myself and all that I've accomplished over the last year and I am extremely grateful to my new workout friends and running buddies. Without them, I never would have pushed myself to accomplish such a daunting (I thought) task.report abuse
